Charity Never Faileth

We got our stimulus money. YAY! We can pay some bills! Woo hoo!

Here’s the thing. It’s SO NICE to have money in your account. I just love opening the website and gazing at the figures. They go away so fast. But for a little tiny bit, it’s wonderful to feel wealthy. Ahhhh sweet money! Delicious money!

It’s been there long enough. Today is the day to pay the bills. I pulled out our University of Utah Health payment. These are the doctors that Dan sees every quarter for his diabetes. They are so sweet. They teach us how to treat him and make sure he’s handling his disease. I get confused where insurance covers and where it doesn’t though and honestly, it’s not like we can price check these kinds of services. You just go and do it because it’s a disease that needs to be treated. Our balance was about $500. We were supposed to be making $100 monthly payments, but I had slacked on it. I hadn’t made a payment in a couple of months.

I picked up the phone to see how much I could get away with paying today. Again, it’s hard to see the money leave the account. Goodbye sweet money! We love you!

The customer service guy told me I didn’t owe anything.

“That can’t be right.”

“It’s right. Let me look into it. Oh! You were gifted a charity!”

“I was gifted a charity? What?”

“Someone decided to pay off your balance. People do this sometimes.”

I was in shock.

Some random person or foundation decided to just pay off our balance. WHAT IS THIS?!!

They chose to let go of their delicious money and give it to ME!!! Who are these people? What kind of magical plane of existence do they work on?

Charity never faileth to make my heart burst.

Do you know what I love more than money in my account? Knowing that there are people out there just randomly paying a strange family’s medical bills. I know the world is topsy turvy right now, but this small, yet very significant act of kindness has renewed my faith in our world.

Thank you.
