NSV

My friend Misty introduced me to the term Non-Scale Victory. I love it. The scale is fun, but fickle, and it doesn’t always tell the story I want to hear. Every month I have a period, which has been its own brand of fun since weight loss surgery, the body clings to every pound, but the inches continue to fall. I know this because my boobs have this fun wrinkly effect right now that only happens when they’re losing their fat. Also, my stomach no longer looks more like a front-butt.

Yesterday, I wanted to experience another Non-Scale Victory. I took our 12 year old, Dan, to Lagoon! It was just the two of us, and because of that, I was able to fully indulge in all his 12 year old whims! We had so much fun!

When I started this journey, one of the biggest reasons I would tell people that I wanted to lose weight, was so I could have fun on roller coasters again. It seems like such an odd reason, but it was something tangible, and not related to looks, that I could hope for. And I love riding the rides! I love the magic and the permagrin that sits on my face while I fly through the air.

I am not a big fan of Disney. The lines are long, and the rides are basically sitting on a calm and peaceful golf cart of a ride, while you look at pretty pictures. I want flying and zooming and twirling! I want the thrill!

So here’s my list of non-scale victories from yesterday.

  1. I was on my feet from 2:30 to 8pm and I didn’t want to die!
  2. We walked all over the park and I was happy!
  3. I fit into the swings on Centennial Swing and everything buckled without any help!
  4. I got to fly across the pond and kick my feet towards the mountains!
  5. I fit on the Wicked ride, the Collossus, the Bat Ride, and every ride I tried to go on!
  6. I had so much fun!

Dan was so cute and protective. He told me that he would say a little prayer for my safety because he wanted to make sure I was okay. He was loving and sweet, and adorable.

At one point, he was swearing too much, and I asked him to stop. He said, “I’m just in that rebellious teenager phase!” And then smiled like this.

Truly, a rebel.

I can’t get enough of this cutie patootie! It was great to spend a day with him!

Here’s to the NSV! The best part of getting healthier, is that I get to DO healthy! I get to have fun, and race across an amusement park, stand in line for hours, feel the wind on my face, and enjoy the precious click when the seat belt and straps fit! Best feeling ever!
